Golden State Foods opens new distribution centre in Chicago
US-based Golden State Foods (GSF) has opened its new distribution centre in Chicago, a move that will increase its distribution capacity.
The facility will serve more than 460 McDonald's customers in the Chicago and Northwest Indiana market.
Spread over an area of around 158,000ft2, the facility is said to be the first centre within GSF and the McDonald's distribution community to be LEED Gold-certified.
The facility will reduce diesel consumption with electric stand-by power for outbound trailers and is using rainwater for irrigation purposes. It is also using hydrogen power, clear panel windows, LED lighting, and a Cascade refrigeration system.
Golden State Foods CEO Mark Wetterau said: "The new building is a milestone in our larger goals toward environmental sustainability and excellent customer service and will serve as a benchmark for future and existing facilities within the GSF distribution community."
The company is involved in the processing of liquid products, dairy, produce, meat, and full-line distribution to the food industry.
GSF currently has 45 facilities and employs 4,500 people across the world.
