CLIFTON — A kosher supermarket chain plans to open its first location in northern New Jersey at the site of the former Acme supermarket in Clifton, The Record reported.
Seasons, which has four supermarkets in New York, plans to open its largest store to date in the next three months using all 55,000 square feet of the vacant Acme in the Styertowne Shopping Center near the Allwood Circle, the newspaper reported. The chain is also opening stores in Lakewood and Baltimore, Md.
Seasons CEO Mayer Gold told the newspaper the supermarket will serve a broader population as well as Orthodox families who keep kosher.
Last year, Clifton lost three supermarkets — the Acme and two Pathmark supermarkets. The Pathmark supermarkets were shuttered due to A&P's bankruptcy.
