Discount retailer WinCo Foods Inc. is building a distribution center in Texas.
The 800,000-square-foot facility could open by Spring 2017, said Michael Read, vice president of public and legal affairs for Boise, Idaho-based WinCo.
The distribution center will support the chain’s growth in Texas, Read said.
WinCo operates six stores in Texas, two more are under contract and additional stores are planned. All are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Read said. WinCo opened its first two stores in the region about two years ago.
“We’re excited about this opportunity. Dallas/Fort Worth is a good market for us, and this gives us the opportunity to self-distribute.”
About 165 people will be employed at the distribution center, Read said. In addition to the main building, the company will construct a 60,000-square-foot truck maintenance facility. And there is space, Read said, for an additional 130,000 square feet of construction in the future.
