Online grocer Door to Door Organics plans a distribution center near Cleveland

The web-based retailer’s expansion into Ohio is the second new market to launch since raising $25 million in the fall.
Door to Door Organics is entering new markets and expanding delivery service, this time in Ohio. The Colorado-based e-retailer, No. 457 in the Internet Retailer 2014 Top 500 Guide, plans to open a distribution center near Cleveland that will serve more than 20 communities.
In February, Door to Door Organics opened a market in Milwaukee, Wis. It was the first new market launched after the online grocer raised more than $25 million in new funding.
The warehouse in Solon, Ohio, will join warehouses in Colorado, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania that range from 10,000 to 25,000 square feet in size.
"Ohio, and specifically Cleveland and Akron, are in an exciting time of reinvestment and a maturing food scene," CEO Chad Arnold says. "We are eager to be a part of the community, creating new jobs and increasing convenient access to organic produce and natural groceries, especially as we begin to identify the local farmers and producers who want to be connected with Ohio shoppers through our organic food delivery service." 
Door to Door Organics, founded in 2005, says it expects to add 50,000 customers this year as it operates in 12 markets and 32 cities.
In addition to opening in new markets, the company said it plans to use funds raised in November to later this year introduce a mobile-optimized site followed by a tablet site.
