Newegg Is New Entrant In the Same-Day Delivery Field

 Posted
The race for same-day deliveries just added a new player, with online retailer Newegg on Monday launching such service in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
It's getting to be a crowded field.
Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) offers same-day delivery in at least 10 cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and New York. When orders are placed before noon, customers can expect their purchases to be delivered that day via Amazon's own fleet of delivery trucks.
Privately held Newegg, which sells electronics and other goods online, said that it will provide same-day delivery from customers in the Los Angeles area who complete their orders by 10 a.m.
The ability to have a product delivered on the same day it's ordered is often a determining factor for consumers deciding to make a purchase. It's "becoming the gold standard for online retail," Newegg said in a press release.
The Amazon Same-Day Delivery program is in competition with same-day services such as Google Shopping Express . The Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) same-day delivery service includes partnerships withCostco Wholesale (NASDAQ:COST) and Barnes & Noble (NYSE:BKS).
Also experimenting with same-day delivery is eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY), with its eBay Now service. So far, the service is available in San Francisco, San Jose, parts of New York City, Chicago and Dallas, eBay says.
Newegg was founded in 2001 and is based in Los Angeles County's City of Industry. The Newegg website has more than 25 million registered users, the company says, which it says makes it one of the top e-tailers in the U.S.
Besides a variety of computers, components, software and games, Newegg also sells auto products, sporting goods, apparel and other goods on its site.
"If all goes as planned, we will expand into new delivery areas," Soren Mills, Newegg's chief marketing officer, said in the company's release.
