The world’s first commercial delivery by self-driving truck

SCA
Anheuser-Busch and logistics specialist Otto have made the world’s first commercial shipment by self-driving truck.

Fully self-driving

Otto’s autonomous truck transported a trailer of Anheuser-Busch’s Budweiser beer 120 miles south through the US state of Colorado, from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs. Whilst a driver was on board for the duration of the journey, they monitored from the sleeper berth and the trip was completed without any intervention.

A groundbreaking journey

This groundbreaking journey is an important milestone in the logistics industry. It showcases the importance of collaboration and innovation in the journey to cut down on logistics costs and make the transportation of goods more efficient.

Improving efficiency through innovation

James Sembrot, Sr. Director, Logistics Strategy at Anheuser-Busch commented: “Anheuser-Busch is passionate about innovation and exploring ways to improve the safety, sustainability, and efficiency of the industries our business touches.
“We admire Otto’s vision that will shape the future of self-driving transportation. As we continue to partner with long-haul carriers to ship our beers, we hope to see this technology widely deployed across our highways to improve safety for all road users and work towards a low-emissions future.”
